Flesh-hatcher Mhekarnahz Boss Guide: Strategies for the New Wilderness Threat

Note: Currently working on this guide so some items may be incomplete.

A first look at the mechanics and tips for defeating the latest low to mid-level boss in RuneScape 3.

⚔️ Boss Overview: Mhekarnahz

The Flesh-hatcher Mhekarnahz is a new low to mid-level boss situated deep within the Wilderness. Unlike some older bosses, Mhekarnahz requires active attention and movement, preventing players from simply AFK-ing the kill.

CRITICAL STEP: Before entering the Wilderness, ensure you speak to Vala and disable PvP if you do not wish to engage in player combat.

📍 How to Get There

Accessing the boss is straightforward, though the travel time varies:

  • The Fastest Route: Use the boss portal at War's Retreat and teleport directly to the latest boss (Mhekarnahz). This will only be active when the boss is still new, as long as you havbe beaten this boss once you can then attune one of the other portals at wars to get there if this main portal is no longer active.
  • The Walking Route: Teleport to Fort Forenthry, then walk north through the Wilderness then north along the coast. The entrance is a hatch marked as a Mysterious Entrance.

  • Alternative Teleport: Using a Daemonheim teleport and walking west and then north from there is also a viable option.

Upon arrival, you can choose to enter a Public or Private instance.

If you want to see others also fighting this boss you can choose public encounter but you will still get your own instance of this boss to fight.

🛡️ Key Boss Mechanics & Strategy

The core strategy for Mhekarnahz revolves entirely around movement and avoiding ground effects.

1. Avoid Ground Attacks (Dodge Everything!)

The most important mechanic observed is the constant need to move. The boss spawns various attacks and objects on the floor that must be dodged.

You will see various effects on the floor showing that there will be an attack in that area. Just move to a non highlighted area to avoid the attack.

Stun Area (figure 1):

you can avoid these areas on the floor to dodge the stun attack

Stuns: The smaller area in figure 1. Failing to dodge these ground attacks can result in a stun, interrupting your combat flow and increasing incoming damage. If you stay in this highligted area you will be stunned and unable to move for a short amount of time.

AOE Attack Area (figure 2):

move out of the highlighted areas

There are three areas where the AOE attack happens, and a highlight will appear over this area. Move out of the highlighted area to avoid the attack. Then just DPS when not moving.

You can surge, dive or escape from these areas. or if you have time just click out of them to avoid them.

2. Handle Warped Flesh Sacks (Adds)

During the fight, the boss will sometimes spawn Warped Flesh Sacks (or similar slime-like adds). These are a high priority.

  • Attack Priority: When these adds spawn, you must take them out (kill them) before you can attack the main boss again.
  • Spawning: The spawning of these adds appears to be random, as they are not present in every instance.

you must take these out as the boss will be immune until you do

3. Instance Management

Unlike some other bosses where you can remain in the arena for extended periods, after defeating Mhekarnahz, you are kicked out of the instance (the game requires you to use the "Leave Portal").

looting the boss and then clicking the exit portal

Before leaving you can loot the boss for your instances loot, and choose if you want to take the loot or just send it directly to the bank.

This means you must re-enter the Mysterious Entrance for every kill, confirming that this is not an AFK boss.

4. Gear and Difficulty

Since this is a low to mid-level boss, players with mid-range gear should have a good chance of successfully completing a kill. The difficulty lies in successfully executing the dodge mechanics, not necessarily in having top-tier stats.

Better gear will lead to faster boss times however.

Arch Glacor is still a better AFK boss, but this new one is a good example of the mechanics and a nice way to learn them.

🎁 Loot & Rewards

Initial runs show promising drops, even in the absence of rare drops:

  • Common Loot: Drops include various battle-ready items, salvages, seeds, and food (like swordfish).
  • The Pet: The Flesh-hatcher Mhekarnahz Pet is the main cosmetic prize, featuring a distinct, cool design.

Here are some of the drops, from my initial testing:

Good luck on your kills! Keep dodging those ground effects and we'll see you in the next guide.
